I finished the second sock last night even though I'm supposed to be taking a holiday from knitting to rest my wrist. The colors really pooled quite differently!

Lace!
This is the start of the the Diamond Fantasy Shawl designed by Sivia Harding, using Violet's Pink Ribbon colorway in Sock Merino by Lisa Souza. It took me around 4 attempts to get past the 20th row - I kept getting lost and was missing stitches. I can't wait to spend more time on this!
Isn't this Fetching?
I took a cable class at Creative Hands on the morning of March 17 and immediately cast on the Fetching pattern and completed the first mitt the next day. I completed mitt # 2 the next week, even though I was supposed to be on a "no-knitting" break. I used Misty Baby Alpaca and it is soooo soft. I want to make the hand portion a bit longer on the next pair.
My first "garment"!
I completed the Stash Vest from Knitty recently. Weaving in all of the ends from the different colored stripes just about did me in! I hope the weather stays cool so I can wear it at least once (that is, after I block it a bit!)

Umm - same dye lot?
I finally finished the second sock using Interlacements Tiny Toes yarn in the RPM pattern. However, one sock has a lot of hot pink whereas the other one doesn't I doublechecked the label and yes, the dye lot number was the same. I'm kind of disappointed. I loved working with the yarn, but it seems like the colors should be similar. Oh - and I'm using the new sock blockers that I bought from Blue Moon Fiber Arts at Stitches last weekend to show them off!

L&V Secret Pal questionnaire
I'm so excited to participate in the Lime and Violet secret swap. Here's my answers to the survey questions:
1. What kind of fibers do you prefer?
I love anything soft. Right now I’m in love with alpaca. I’m also really curious about some of the new fibers like bamboo. Since I live in Calif, I would like to find something that's not as warm as wool - some kind of cotton blend? Mohair, on the other hand, I hate, hate, hate! I love the look, but find it to be too scratchy on my neck, the fibers get in my throat and I have a heck of a time knitting with it.
2. What kind of weight do you prefer (sock, worsted, bulky)?
I like sock, DK, sport or worsted! I just went crazy buying laceweight, so I have enough of that to last me for years!
3. Do you spin?
Not yet– my daughter and I learned to spin at Stitches (see my last post!) It’s a slippery slope!
4. Do you crochet?
I used to crochet a lot in college. I still do an occasional project, mostly items in the round like hats, bowls and bags.
5. Are there any books, patterns, magazines would you like to own that you don't?
Umm, yes, but the list is way too long! I would love to get the Fiber Trends felting patterns for the hedgehog or penguin!
6. Are you participating in any themed a-longs like the Project Spectrum?
No.
7. Do you have a wishlist on Amazon.com or Half.com? (provide a link)
No – that would require a commitment to be patient!
8. Any Etsy stores that you would love to get something from?
Just about any of them!
9. What other crafty things are you involved in (quilting, drawing, painting)?
I’m a big scrapbooker (or used to be before I got consumed by knitting) and like creating things out of my scrapbook supplies (covered journals, decoupaged monograms, etc)
10. What is your favorite sort of scent?
I’m allergic to strong fragrance and all perfumes. However, natural scents like rose and lavender I like, if not too strong. (I grow lots of roses!)
11. Do you have a sweet tooth and what kind of sweets do you like best?
CHOCOLATE! I’ve been trying to eat only dark chocolate since I can justify it as heart healthy!
12. What kind of music do you like?
I love my baby boomer music but have pretty eclectic tastes – from Norah Jones to Randy Newman, the Beatles, Sting, James Taylor. No heavy metal, rap or Britney Spears music for me!
13. What do you like to knit? And for whom?
Well, socks of course! (Thanks to L&V!) I mostly knit for myself, but also knit for the teenage daughter. When I’m brave enough to tackle a sweater, I will make one for my husband (he’s actually requested one!)
14. What sort of things do you like to collect?
Anything handmade and books! Edited to add "and ducks of course!!"

Stitches West
I went to Stitches on Friday. Originally, I wanted to be there when the market opened, but due to a change in plans, ended up getting there around 1:30pm. In a way, I'm glad that I went later, because I heard that it was a zoo in the morning and so crowded at the Blue Moon Fiber Arts booth that you couldn't even get in. One of my goals was to buy some STR, but the pickins were pretty slim bythe time I got there. The best bet was to buy one of their Fair Isle "kits" which had 2 skeins of STR in nice bright colors. Here's a picture of my yarn haul on Friday:
My daughter wanted to go to Stitches too, so the two of us went on Sunday afternoon (I figured that Saturday would be way too crazy!). She was actually more excited about the Japanese fabric booth I found on Friday. We spent a couple of hours (with only minimal whining, are you done yet?) going up and down the aisles. The highlight was learning to spin at the Serendipity Spinners booth. They rigged up a drop spindle using a CD and dowel. Here's R's first spool of spun fiber:
I so want a spinning wheel! I think I might just look for a nice drop spindle so I can spin small amounts of yarn to include in my projects. I don't really need yet another hobby!
I also bought a couple of shawl pins (one glass, one wood), a few patterns and a pair of sock blockers from Blue Moon. I really wanted to find a nice messenger bag for my knitting projects, but was disappointed to find very few bags being sold.
